We have already written  several times on this page about Thomas Nastos, and finally here is an interview with him.

The truth is, now the poor guy is dragged in the Greek Army for a bit of training, as they still have compulsory military service there.

Therefore it was a bit difficult to finish the interview with him. Enjoy it.

Your career can be read on the website already, so I would rather ask you, what do you prefer… writing, producing music or playing records? In other words, do you see yourself as a DJ, producer, or music journalist?

First of all I would like to thank you for this interview opportunity, it’s a pleasure to be hosted on your site. Well, in the past few years I got involved in many different ways in what we call the ’music industry’. All the mentioned aspects have its own beauty and of course I cannot imagine myself not doing them. Writing gives you the chance to share your own thoughts with your readers and help developing their own ideas. Producing is my musical expression, what I have inside me expressed in melodies and DJing is the outcome of what we have inside. You go spin to a particular crowd and you share your energy with them. So all these three aspects, that you mentioned, are useful for different purposes in my life.

At Fiberlineaudio you are the Assistant Director. Can you tell us how did you get in contact with them and what is your main role there?

Well, it all started in the summer of 2005 when I took part in the first Remix Contest of Fiberline Audio Recordings. I got second place with my remix on Simuck – Remember Me that was actually my first break tune ever. From that contest I got to know the label owners, Jay and David, and the relationship was perfect. Then David asked me if I have some good friends who compose music and I brought some of them to the label, which made me an A&R Executive for Greece. My work at the label was much appreciated and I was offered the position of Assistant A&R Director, which means I am responsible for signing tracks to the label together with our excellent A&R team and my director Adrian Ravelo. At the same time I am running the label’s promo list and share my opinion on many things happening on the label regarding promotion, marketing, and scheduling.

At your area – I am thinking of Greece – the electronic music line is very strong, there are many good DJs and producers. Why is that?

It’s true. In the last 2-3 years there have been many great producers from Greece. I have been in contact with most of them through the magazine and I have to say that this did not surprise me. Greece always had quality producers and it was about time they received some attention. Internet and digital labels helped a lot and believe me there are more to come in the future!

What was the biggest success and failure in your career?

Well, I don’t know if what I have done so far can be mentioned as ’career’ but in my path my biggest success is the relationships that have been developed with all the people I have met and have worked together with in the scene: producers, journalists, DJs and simple EDM fans. As a failure I can spot my limited productions all this time but the reason for that is mostly real life problems!

You started as a DJ and later you developed yourself as producer. When and why did you decide you should make your own music as well?

Truth is that I started as a songwriter, since I had a rock band from 1996 to 2000. I used to be a big fan of Curt Cobain and Nirvana so I started writing music together with my best friend at that time. Then some big electronic groups like Chemical Brothers and Orbital impressed me and I got involved in DJing. The logical progress was to start writing music with more electronic elements till the day this got me fully into EDM.

Your writings can be found in many internet music site, such as FREEZE or e-dj.Thomas_Nastos_play When have you started to work for these sites and what is your main task there?

On e-djs.gr I started as a very active user about 4 years ago. I was trying to share my knowledge on some particular tasks with other  and that got the attention of the ’e-djs team’. I was asked to be a moderator and part of the team, which continues today. After that I did some limited reviews and wrote some articles about music and events for the site till the day I got into FREEZE Magazine team about 3 years ago. My main task on FREEZE is doing reviews mainly in Progressive House and Breaks, both 12” and CD’s. Some months ago I started making reviews for digital releases for the first time and I think it turned out very well. At the same time I have the ability to make interviews and I have arranged many mixed CD’s + interview for the magazine like Andrew K – Junk Science, V-Sag – Colored Concept, Fiberlineaudio Presents Submono Vol I and some new ones that will be released in the next months from Andrew K & Leoni, DJ Tim, Behold Recordings and others.

At which point in your career could you say, now you reached the height of it?

I guess when I will be in the position to release an artist album. This is the true success for an electronic artist, in my opinion. It’s not easy nowadays to reach World Class DJ status and I think that this is not our goal either. The important thing is to make music we love and nothing more!

Now I would ask a bit about your personal life as well. What do you do in your spare time?

Well the same things as everyone else, hanging out with my girl and friends, watching football, and going to the movies. My wish is to have more time for music and not just spare time!

Have you finished your studies?

Yes, I got my Mechanical Engineer Degree three months ago and now I am ready to fill my army duties which is mandatory for everyone here in Greece.

Lets say, you are in an uninhabited island, there is no record player, no internet, only naked nature. What would you do? :)

Probably would die, lol. No chance of living without music out there!

What are your future plans in terms of own songs and what would you like to still achive?

I had the impression that after finishing my studies I will have so much free time that I would be able to start making some original tracks as I did years ago. It seems that in real life things are harder and first of all you have to earn a living and then make music, because you cannot earn a living by making music. So first goal for me it’s to find free time for some original tracks and make an artist album. After that who knows...

Have you ever played abroad?

Yes, I was lucky enough to do a gig in Pacha Club, in a beautiful city called Galati in Romania. The whole experience was amazing and I hope to do it again in the future!
