If you read through the below interview and listen to the additional mix, I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised. There is a big future for Michael & Levan’s music and productions. Now lets see the interview.
By way of introduction tell us something about yourself, because people in Hungary might not hear too much about you.
Hello. We are Michael and Levan Dunamalyans, Armenian guys, born here, in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi J . Michael is elder, he is 24 and Levan is 22. Through our childhood we tried several sports. The first sport was football, then boxing. When Michael was 17 years old, he finished with boxing and began studying in a University. At that time Levan was a professional boxer and even became a champion of our country, hehe J. At the age of 17, he began studying in the same university. These days we just started studying to produce electronic music.:)
You are DJs and producers at the same time. Which started first?
We began producing together at the same time and learnt everything by ourselves. The taste was the same, we were listening to the same music and producing the same sound. But the DJ is only Levan (DJ MichaeLevan). Michael started to learn to DJ just now. Nowadays Levan is a professional DJ/Producer ( with me J ) in Georgia. Our progressive sound in tracks brought us respect among many famous DJs and producersJ . Levan is a resident at Tunnel club. In his sets you can always feel deep dark and melodic sounds of progressive house, which never dies! Also we are often invited to various radio shows all over the world. We were guests at „Immersed” radio show on friskyradio,”Tronik sessions”on AZ FM,”Dark senses” on Pure fm, ”Raining sessions” on ADN fm, ”Lacandon sessions” on Jenny fm. On the 29th of March we will be guests on the Russian radio station „Adam” on the show called „Tranceplantation exclusive” .
You are brothers. Tell us, how did it happen you work together?
In 1996 we were in Moscow and everything started from there. This was the first time we heard the sound of Robert Miles. Miles was the first musician who influenced us very strongly. After this we decided to produce, make the sound we LOVE. When our father bought our first PC, we began searching for music programs for producing.
What was the main determinative influence that lead you
to start producing?
When we were listening to the tracks, we were always searching to the sound we love. It was too hard to find it in Georgia. When we got the PC, we began producing. Step by step we were coming closer to the sound which we wanted to produce. And these days I think we completed our mission and want to show to the people the sound which harms our health in perfect case of sense. Nem értem….
How do you divide the work between music making/producing?
We never begin producing together :) One of us begins and the other one continues, and during this job we help each other. Never conflicting each other during producing J. In life? Ooo yes! Hehe J But we always look for compromises J
Who are the compatriots that you can thank a lot to, helped you, or still support you in your career?
In Georgia we can say thanks to our family, friends - George Gvindadze who is always with us and helps everytime, David Nucubidze (head of booking team „Local Promotion”)... And we want to say many thanks to DJ Mewell, Snake Sedrick, Tomas Haverlik, Alex Rize, Lokitas and many other DJs, producers, people... We want to send special thanks to a great person. His name is Kintar-awesome Argentinian producer/DJ and superb friend of ours, like a real brother. He is the guy, who helps us with inspiration, promotion, music, mastering, also with music quality in order to sound clearer. In a word - he helps us with EVERYTHING and he is a real professional with his job. I wish him all the best and also wish him to reach the top place with his label „Sudam”- as he says „our family” J.
Yes, our tracks„My Child on the Pictures” and „Digital Bird”(ambient) will be out on Tilth Music. Our friend, DJ Mewell from Ukraine, advised us to send the tracks to Snake Sedrick. The next day we sent the tracks, Sedrick immediately answered and told us on that moment „My child on the pictures” is the favourite tune for him. He asked us not to send the tracks to any other labels :) As we are informed „My Child on the Pictures” will be released in April with Snake Sedrick’s remix and maybe with Tomas Haverlik’s remix on Tilthmusic. We have another release in April too. Two tracks called „Night Colours” and „Cosmobird” will present us as artists of „Sudam Recordings”.
How is your relationship nowadays with him?
It is very good. We often write to each other and always keep in contact. Snake is real a professional on his job. Big respect to him!
Do you keep contact with others from Hungary?
Yes, we know some Hungarian DJs and producers. Big respect to all of them... But don’t know them as well as Snake Sedrick. Sometimes we discuss news and music with the great Hungarian producer Retroid too. Hope one day we will be invited to Hungary to play. It would be a great opportunity to get closer with them.
Maybe lots of people have interest on what the Georgian
music scene is. Would you
Here you can find all the sound you want. But most of them are electro and minimal. And of course, POP music. It is everywhere. Nowadays, thank God we have some promotional booking companies, who often invite great DJs to play here.
Have you already got the chance to appeare abroad or shown your talent only in your homefield?
No, never had that great chance. Levan has played only in Georgia yet. Hopefully soon we will be invited to play abroad too. Maybe it will be in Hungary first? hehe J
Finally, please tell us a few words about your future plans.
We will try to make more killer tracks to show our senses, feelings to the people :) And really hope once we will meet Kintar, Snake Sedrick, Tomas Haverlik, Mewell and other friends to say thanks and spend some great time together. Thanks to all of them again and again! We want to say thanks to „Musicforever” too. Big respect for the popularization of progressive music! You are great! Keep up!:)
