I need to make a clean breast of the mix - belong to the interview - is one of my new favourits, and also the producer trio, but I liked them and their songs before the interview of course. People defines their style as deep-funk, certainly we can find some house and progressive lines, too.
I tried but couldn’t find enough information about you,
so I’m asking you ’random’ questions. But I hope we can make a nice intwrview
together.
So let’s start at the beginnings! If I’m right, you are
three in the team. Who is who, and how did you find each other?
Inox: Basicly, we all love house music
and we live in same town which is enough to get in contact. Im Inox and im
producing or trying since 1997. I love deep to techy house and ofcourse
relaxing downtempo stuff.
Dido: I'm Dido, and must say i have
nothing to do with the singer Dido, my parents called me like this loooong time
ago:) We know each other couple years and
to mention, it's funny that even we all live in same town, we meet each
other on internet.
Iceberg: Well you are correct, we are 3 guys
in this project, im the oldest one than Inox
and Dido is the youngest. I started my dj carreer in 2001.. meet with
Dido in 2003, and very soon we started gigin' sometimes together, cause we were
into the same sound and had understanding between eachother. Than at begining
of 2006 i started to comunicate with Inox, first through the internet, than we
met on some party. Soon after that both of us were playin at the same festival
in Saraevo(Bosnia), and since that we became
friends.. private and professionaly.
Do you play any intstruments? Or do you have musical
qualification?
Inox: I try playing keyboards, but must
admit that im still an amateur. Im producing for almost a decade now and thats
the only qualification i have.
Dido: I don't play any instruments
either.I guess my passion for music is my only qualification i guess.
Iceberg: No. I dont play any instruments and
i dont have any musical qualification.
Since when have you dealed with electronic music?
Inox: Since Underworld, Orbital, FSOL,
Prodigy etc. I felt truly in love with electronics since i first saw the
ReBirth software. That was love and first sight and im still faithfull to it.
Dido: Well since i was 11, it all began
with FSOL, Underworld, Orbital, Prodigy,Chemical Brothers, Front 242 etc.I
remember that how i was getting older i was discovering new music, new artists,
and that i'm still doing it :)
Iceberg: My first touch with EDM is
somewhere in 1998-99 as i can remember.. back than first listening some
compilation of ministry of sound, GU compilations, Yoshiesque compilations from
Deep Dish... but never thinking of the posibility that one day i'll start
dj-ing myself.. and professionaly i start in 2001. Jason Jinx back than gave me
some 4-5 vinyls on one party and thats how all starts :).
Do you divide roles in producing? What tasks are whose?
Inox: Once or twice a week, we gather in
my home studio and try fucking with loops and instruments. Im the machine but
Dido and Iceberg are the brains, and they are also good students and soon they
will be pros on their own.
Dido: I also try to do vocals sometimes
(kiddin) :P
Iceberg: In our project we are all the same,
no one is the boss-but i must say that Inox is the "machine", and me
and Dido-we are more in the arangment of the tracks we are makin', and maybe if
we put some vocals into tracks.. we will be the leads.. hehehe(im kiddin).
What programmes do you like?
Inox: I use Fruity Loops as layer for
audio samples but mainly VST-Ins and Reason is what i use the most.
Dido: Ableton & Pro Tools..
Iceberg: In most of tracks we use Fruity
Loops as layer for audio samples but mainly VST-Ins and Reason, but with todays
tehnology there is many oportunities to use lot of programs.
What musical chances are there in your country?
Inox: None. The whole scene is going
backwards, but i hope it will be better soon.
Dido: Yeah to depressive here with the
club scene, the clubs have very bad politics, and the crowd is not educated a
lot. It's all going in different direction.
Iceberg: I rather want answer this, but
since you ask- i must say that they are very bad. Take this for example-in our
country we are noticed by few people who are into EDM,
oposite
of that our talent(hope we have it :) ) is much more noticed out in Europe(mostly south-east) and South America (as we are part of the
Feedback-Booking Agency).
If you are tired of producing, what do you do as a
relaxation?
Inox: There is nothing like good
downtempo or chillout.
Dido: Well i also like a lot
chillout/downtempo/triphop stuff, lately i try to discover more good producers
who make this kind of music besids the maestros in this field of music: Ulrich
Schnauss, Boards Of Canada, Jon Hopkins,Honeyroot, also Tom Middleton & Mark
Pritchard's in thier Global Communication guise, also i'm waiting years for the
release of Tom Middleton's Amba album, heard some of the stuff and they are
amazing.I also spend most of the time infront my pc and beside production and
finding new music i'm also chating with my freinds, i'm meeting nice people
around the world everyday on internet and always discuss about music and life
also sharing opinions about,.Lately also i'm reading books and get interested
about Buddism and Dalai Lama, those stuff are changing my perception about life
and the things around me.So i guess this things relax me a lot.
Iceberg: When we produce and get tired of
it,we lay on bed in most of cases and listening some kinda Ulrich Schnaus stuff
or go outside on walk through the park(like pensioners) hehee.
What was your biggest success till now?
Inox: It must be our EP signed on Proton
Music, to be released in september.
Dido: Well the EP for Proton Music and
also rescently we are in the Feedback-Bookings roster.
Iceberg: My personal success - i can mention playing with almost all big
name dj-s like Hernan Cattaneo, Sasha, Dubfire, Satoshi Tomie.., playin outside
Macedonia-through whole Balkan almost...etc; and for production, I think we
still dont touch the biggest success, hope to be soon.
What do you do in everyday life? Do you work or
still study?
Inox: Im a graphic designer and thats
what i do for living. Too bad i cant focus on music only.
Dido: Well i still study, but i'm rookie
3 years (hahaha), because 99% of the time i'm focused on music only.
Iceberg: In my everyday life i have work-
workin in our only club station radio Club FM, and mostly im on my PC searchin
for the new fresh music. So it means that im totaly on music in my life(have
time always for some other pleassures too) :).
Progressive is mixed with some funky line in your
music, and tracks are very clever and upbeat. Are you cheerful in private life
as well?
Inox: Not really. Im more into deeper
intelegent sound and my solo tunes sound more like that. Latenta Project is
whole different idea. We try to push dancefloor music that is actually music in
first place. We are sick of cheap beeps and bleeps and music without soul that
is mainstream in the clubs now. We live in hope for the return of the good old
proggy days, when music was the main thing..
Dido: Yeah, as Inox said, we try to push
dancefloor music that is actually music, i mean look around the stuff that is
released everyday,it's absoloutley rubish,i'm not offending anyone elses music
but i guess this days everyone who doesent have any musical talent can make a
song, and that track will be released due the mp3 revoulution. We are three
diferent persons, and the music we make is telling about us i guess, who we
are.Our music is connection between deep, funk and progressive house, we are
also dj's and we have own taste, and when we make music we are expressing our
feelings, not trying to be trendy or making tunes for moneyor to be famous,
because then u will loose it, like a lot of good producers and dj's did, it's
most important that you follow your heart. In privite life i try to be positive
as a i can get these days, but see whats happening around us look all the people
who chase material gains and boosting their ego's and it’s for this reason
there is a lot of greed and war in the world, insted of that i find my self very
lucky person for creating something nice and beautiful and my possibility to
share to the other people, instead being a part of this insaine destructive
system.
Iceberg: First of all I will say that we
make house music-without any genres under, cose into our tracks we use always
samples from different genres, but mostly we are concentrate to make
groovy-melody staffs which wil make people dance and have fun, at least we try
to do that. Yes we are lookin to present how we feel into our private life-even
sometimes is hard to do that right.
Do you sometimes have a miff in the team during
producing?
Inox: Ofcourse, but we are humans not
animals and we get over it very soon. (but we'd love a pair of MILF hangin'
around the studio :)
Iceberg: Hahaaa yes, I will lie if i say we
are not arguin about something. We are 3 heads all somehow different, but when
its question of producing the track, we are concentrate to work as one, is hard
but we doin somehow.
What sounds give you ideas for creating your own music?
Inox: The inner sounds :). Sometimes you
feel extra energy and making music is the only way to release it.
Dido: Well, actually we listen all kind
of music, live different lifes so i guess inspiration can come from
everywhere. But its important a lot to connect your feelings and emotions with
the music u make.
Iceberg: Hmm, I think its the idea that we
have at the moment, mostly we use piano sounds for that melltin point that we
want to have into tracks.
What does ’asss-shaking electronic music’ mean in your
words? :)
Inox: Means music + energy. That must be:
Tom Middleton, Danny Howells, Jimpster etc.
Dido: Music that moves you. When we are
playing we always look for that energy that connects u with the crowd, its a
lovely feeling.I think its amazing what music can do to us, human beings..
Iceberg: Hehehee, well that means that we
make music which move people asses on to dancefloor, hope that we are doing
right till now, if we are wrong sorry for inconvinience - heheee.
I heard you first time in d-Phrag’s show on Frisky
Radio. How did you know him?
Inox: He is my old friend. d-Phrag owns
and i must thank him again for inviting us in the show.
Iceberg: I dont know that guy, but i respect
him for helping us about our promotion, Inox maybe can tell ya more about
that, since he is the one that has contact with him.
What does your name, ’Latenta Project’ mean?
Inox: Latent can mean "hidden",
"presently inactive" or "potentially existing but not yet
realized" (Wikipedia)
Dido:
Lazy bastards that are obsessed with music or look Inox's answer :)
Iceberg: Ohhh, hard to explain really-but it
came to us from nothing,it look to us as a word Latent-like have not so much
interest for other things than music; that is in our minds- not to be
missunderstood pls.
Where have you had gigs abroad till now?
Inox: Bosnia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Croatia... mostly our neighbour countries.
Dido: Bulgaria, Croatia...
Iceberg: As a team we have played several
time in our country only till now (with hopes that will change that soon) and
for myself - I say i played almost through whole balkan region.
And a last question, what are your plans for the close
and further future?
Inox: Music always comes first. No matter
production or mixing, we are total music addicts and we will always spread the
nicest sounds around the globe.
Dido: What comes next? Who knows, we just
keep doing what we do before.Enjoying in music, producing & playing.
Iceberg: We dont have big plans as we are
still young talents (as they called us) but hope to make some cool
production-which wil make us much more noticed throught out the world of EDM
-and afcourse in OUR country hehehee.God knows what will happen.. will see..
hope for god always right. Thnaks for your kindness to present us on your page,
so people can get in touch with us. Cheers ;).
