Sometimes a little disengagement from our surroundings is way out of harm’s way. If there’s no other way, only our fantasies fly away to rich fronded woods or a peaceful seaside dotted by the sunset. We can surf on the waves of sound or gaze the stars. A wholehearted person. A guy who isn’t tainted by success. A prosperous producer whose life is music. Zoltán From P60.
Were you actively learning music?
No, only at school. Although I frequented my friend, Gero, for some training a year ago. He’s a qualified musician and I think I learnt many usuable things from him.
How is a ’real From P60 music’ born at the witch’s brew? Do you need a special feeling or mood to create music?
Without a doubt a mood is necessary. I need to be sure I can work calmly and I won’t have to intermit a procedure. Producing is a procedure. It starts with the basics, then the music is built up. If I’m disturbed I find my way back to the same feeling hard.
You have a very unique sound. From where do you take inspiration? I think of Hungarian and foreign DJs/producers. Or is there maybe anything else in the background?
I always listen to music, mainly from abroad, but I gladly select from home artists’ work as well. My ideal is Marcel who is thought of as the best Hungarian musician by me. My favourite foreign artist is David Alvarado. His music and mixes always carry me away. Lots of things can give me inspiration...situations from life, people, small things. You just have to watch for it and it comes.
Many people think
that a PC isn’t enough to create good quality music. What do you
I use a Virus b, Korg ms 2000 and Nord electro rack 2as well. I think you can make out many things with a PC, but for some issues you need ’iron’.
You work together with a girl who has wonderful voice. How did this contact come to be?
I met Virág thanks to Gero. I liked her song lyrics, so I gave her some music that I felt her voice was fit to. I was right. J Since then, many of our collective tracks were released, and I got lots of mails from abroad, mainly inquiring about our vocal tracks.
You were playing at Szeparé during an entire summer. However, you achieved success abroad. Did you take your chance knowingly abroad?
No, it wasn’t deliberate, it just happened this way. To tell the truth, I haven’t made an effort at all so people could come to know me at home. Here the market is full. There are some made names and it’s difficult, almost impossible to get into. I could get into Szeparé through abroad as well, because my friend, Mathieu (who worked there) heard my music on a foreign site first, then he found me at home.
One can always feel where his/her music is. Where it should be sent, is it ready to send, or needs some more work on it.... There are so many labels and they mean good opportunities at the same time. If you think your music is ready for release, you should send it. Think about it, what do you have to lose? Generally you get a reaction from the label, like it’s not so real, or it’s good, but not their style, or they want to release it, and they’ve been waiting for you. J
Only a few producers can take pride in a record release in America. What are the feedbacks like?
My first record came out on Rhythmic NYC, and I’ve just seen that it’s on the market again. This is really good feedback. The second one came out on King Street/Nitegroove and I got also good reactions from them. Maybe my next record will be released there again, but I don’t wanna say anything more about it.
What difficulties are
liable to occur if someone would like to make money with
It’s not easy in Hungary. Most of my friends work besides music, just like me. But of course there are some examples of people who does only this and can make a good living. You have to arrange many gigs, then things go more smoothly. You can only get a little money for records and royalties, especially at the beginning.
Are you ’deep’ in the private sphere as well? I mean was your private life changed in regards to profession and public?
I don’t feel I would have changed, therefore could it have happened? Recognition is a good thing, it’s very good feeling when somebody comes and felicitates me, or you hear your own music in somebody’s mix, but these things don’t change the world.
Are there going to be any events in your life that you’d like to share with us?
There’s gonna be a Private Sounds party soon where I’m playing with Lank, Krisztián (Forteba), Del Sol and Stone. I think that will be a memorable experience. I gladly welcome everybody there!
How can the atmosphere of clubs in New York and some Ibiza feelings be alloyed? From P60’s mix gives us the answer. Enjoy it!
