| Interviews - Hungarian DJs & Producer | |||
The country is full with new talents (but somehow it is not recognized), I realized, as I have met so many new producers at the beginning of their carrier who are hopefully will be successful. Dynamic Illusion has a unique approach on the progressive line and with his talent and with the emotions on his music, he is noticeable. I think I have found somebody…
In Hungary your name is hardly or not at all known, so lets start at the beginning. How long have you written music, how has it started?
It started far-far away… :) I was around 13 when my father bought our first PC. From that point I started to understand the then „power tools”, namely the tracker programs. With the help of these programs I started to create elementary dance and house music while I had to hold on at the school (music) and at the band as well…
If I am correct, you spent 8 years studying music, and I assume not electronic music. How did you get a closer relation to the underground line?
That is right. I studied at a musical elementary school and conservatoire, then I played in a youth wind band at Szombathely. Meanwhile my cousin started to collect in cassettes the big once in the early house music and played them to me at family gatherings. These were the records of Kadoc, Jaydee or Mr. Jack. I already started to pay attention to those products :). During the high school years I gathered new knowledge and picked up new music experiences. At the beginning we went to techno parties in Budapest, mostly to Hyperspace, then later to tribal parties at Pacha and at Home. In techno the enormous energy and the special place of the venue at old factory buildings attracted me, however the progressive music is much more than this. The pleasant combination of rhythms and feelings, the pace of the dance and the experiment of new sounding. At the distance of time the techno stayed behind and the progressive house and its tuneful trance mix stepped forward.
What was your biggest achievement?
Maybe, when in my youth I had the chance to play in the Nederland in a big festival. And another one, when I won the first foreign remix contest
I found it personally annoying
that we sadly can get use to the fact; we sooner hear
Well, my opinion is, we are only motes of dust in a big desert. :) Sadly, the hardest job is to change the mind and the attitude of the people. Simply the audience was raised in a way; they do not have demand for the quality music. Sometimes it is not intentional, because some of them have no ideas, there is life after Master Blaster too… :)
What do you think about the Hungarian underground scene? What are the possibilities?
Opportunity as such, does not exist, especially if you want to be as a dj. You might be recognised after you have your several foreign release, maybe you won a contest or a big GU dj plays one of your track in his mix.
What is your opinion about the big leading djs/producers?
Well… For me big djs or producers are not those anymore whom I worshipped 5-10 years ago. At least not in the classical term of djs. Many of them have lost the enthusiasm or hardly can be seen. I often do not understand the party organizers why they being asked to perform. In the producer scene however I welcome everybody who is ready to approach from the music side to the progressive, and not following the unfortunately fast spreading electro line..
Do you think the electronic music is going to the right direction or it is slowly burden by the interest of money while the real values will disappear and the profit comes in the forefront?
The truth is, in our small country it is impossible to earn money being an underground musician. I hardly know any producer who was able to make it big and being well known enough to live from only to be musician. Furthermore those djs can live on this who is already doing it for 15 or 20 years and a certain club or organization somehow twit to them. But I have a feeling it applies to not only our country. Tasteless music infests the market with many digital labels. It is hard to find the real values nowadays.
Lets go back to you. Nowadays a lot of style mixed together. Who is your favorite performer, from whose work you are picking up your idea?
Lets list them from the bottom! :) Ambient, Downtempo, Deep House, Progressive House/Break, Trance. More or less these are my favorite. These days, from the performers I cultivate Dousk, Peter McCowan, Jacobb Todd, Sultan and Silent Brothers. Basically I listen and play the East influenced music, which spiced up with strong trance elements. Besides these, I listen a lot of other music and if something captures me, I got the inspiration from that, when I start playing music.
You won a remix competition in December at the American Toes in the Sand Records, where such big names work as Silent Brothers, Naveen G – who was already introduced in the site – or Storyteller. What happened with the winner song and what possibilities you have now?
The song was released in an album with the above-mentioned Storyteller, and Emersia, Elke Klejn, Jarius Miller. This is already a big chance and accomplishment. Anyway, Toes In the Sand Recordings asked me for another mix. Unfortunately I do not know a lot more from this … :)
The first and most important „power tool” that I am using is Ableton Live. I prefer the Native Instrument and Spectrasonic vst synthetisators and the M-Audio mastering tools and dynamic regulator, such as Ozone. It provides a studio quality. For dj I am using the X-Session Pro controller with a software called Torq. This is a complete next generation digital tool for djs. A bit similar to final scratch, but more complex and not essentially needed a recorder or cdj.
Have you already performed, or you are still at the very beginning and this is your plan for the future?
I had, have and hopefully will have in the future as well. I was a member at Deep In Da Night party organizer team in Budapest. We had some very pleasant parties with guests, such as Snake Sedrick, Lank, Blackman or Ben Edek. Unfortunately there are no grounds for these parties so we ended the organization. Since then I am a frequent guest at radio Justmusic.Fm at the Yvel and Tristan Foundation Hours and at Time Machine, presented by Jámbor Tomi and Rich. I also have high hopes that I raised attention at the party organizers with my music and will get invitations for electronic music parties here in Hungary.
What is your current work?
I write songs relentlessly… :) My next song will be a Pablo Roma remix, which will be released by FeralCode Records. I am planning to release my own single, and as you can hear in the mix, I am working on a project with Nimi, my dear colleague. Our aim is to bring a bit of culture into the underground music with poems, spicing up with classical guitar and vocals. We see what will be the result… We are waiting for the feedbacks ;)
What is the concept when you create a song, what are the elements that give the starting point?
A tune in my head, maybe a vocal detail or in extreme cases a song hit that I heard from the radio that inspires me. Unlike others, first I have the main tune or the „sound” itself, the atmosphere and then I decide which way I take the groove. This end-mix is a plus work, but it worth it, because the listener will have a complex music experience and not a linear product from the industrial production.
Szombathely, where you live, is a small town. What was the reaction on your hobby and starting career?
I moved from Szombathely. My living called me to Székesfehérvár to a multination company. Although I am a sound technician, I was not able to work on this profession. But here I have met a guy who is very close to this music. He is Tamás Jámbor, with whom later I would love to work. Fortunately from home I got positive feed back so far. Unfortunately I have not got more opportunities to meet with old friends, pals. But I hope they are all proud of me and I can promise I will never forget from where I came…
What are your plans for the future and when you would say that now you achieved your goals and you are satisfied?
I am not sure when I could feel that, but if this exists, then it would be a huge festival where I could play my own songs in front of around 10 000 people while I would see on the party goers’ face the happiness. Maybe this … :) For the future I would like to give more to the people from the Dynamic Illusion feeling, helping them to experience from time to time a journey around the progressive music and their mind… ;) Thanks for reading this interview and I hope my mix will be liked as well!
