| Interview - Christian Slater (+mix) | ||||

In our last interview we've already mentioned this week's producer, Christian Slater. His career is very successful as well, and during reading the interview you can feel that's only the beginning as Krisztián has plenty of drive and good ideas that still wait for realization. You are a real music fan as started spinning records at home when you were only 14. How was that moment when you first tried to mix two records? Can you remember? It was quite difficult because I didn’t know its technic. I had a classmate who could tell me some basic things about it. And I listened to lots of mixes and tried to find out how to do it. I realized that the best is if I learn it by myself. I practiced a lot, 2-3 hours each day for 3 years. If I missed only one, I felt myself bad. My parents found it quite bizarre how fanatic I am, but later they understood it. Did you wanna be a DJ? Yeah, from the first time. Those days Paul van Dyk’s style meant a lot for me. I recorded all of his sets that were showed by the German Viva music channel. Beside him Sasha and Chicane were my favourites. First I prefered to play faster Holland and German style, but after a while I slowed down. :) You’ve already done some gigs abroad in countries like Denmark, Sweden or Poland. The most important was maybe the one in Sweden as it was a Godskitchen VIP party. When was it exactly and how did you get there? It was in March 2005. I have a very good Swedish friend who heard me playing at a party and he liked my style and technic. He promised me already in 2004 that he will manage a gig in Sweden for me. I sent many promos through him, the organizers liked it very much, so they said ok for it. The gig was successful and next day I could play in Denmark with the current Scandinavian trance „elit”. Last year I had luck to play in two other club sin Sweden, and if everything goes well, this summer I’ll return. Your name, Christian Slater, is also name of a world famous actor. Has it made any It hasn’t caused any confusion as we are not in the same scene with the gentleman. :) I sometimes get jest, but I laught at it as well. I got it as a nick name from an English friend. It stucked on me so it’s not worth to change it. I’m still considering but I think I’ll keep it. What labels’ or producers’ records do you like most? What captivates you in a music? So many music come out nowadays and the genres change very quick. So that it’s not easy to pick out one producer who can keep step and produce good music. The periods of different electronic music genres never make the same influence on every producer. Someone like deep, calm, discreet sounds, and someone prefer maddening „hammering”. Thank goodness, different styles are on a good way. I don’t want to promote foreign producers now, enough to look around in Hungary where you can find awesome producers. And I think most of them are sometimes better than the foreigners. Back to the question… I mostly like music that can generate some emotions in me. I prefer melodies maybe due to my trance-past. Sometimes a little tune can captivate me as much as I start to play the track immediately. You found minimal and tech house in 2006, met with Soliquid and founded the SCS Productions. But later this relationship was broken. How do you remember for that time? We used to be very good friends with Dávid. Had some really successfull gigs together as well after we started SCS. But unfortunatley after a while our relationship went bad, I still don’t know why exactly. But I have very goof memories from that time. And now we arrived to last week’s interview… So after that you started to work with Tommy Nash. Yeah, I’d already known Tomi and we were chatting a lot on MSN. We had similar plans, so we decided to start working together. Cooperation is very good between us. We always coolly think over every steps and hark to each other’s opinion. And we share all incomings. I think these things make our cooperation going on well. And of course we have lots of fun during work and in our freetime as well. You have a show on Hungarian TrancetreamFm. (Worth listen to it, really good! :) ) When was it started? It’s started on 17th January 2007. Though the name of the radio is Trancetream, the main conception of our show is not trance. We try to collect music that fresh, progressive and quality without reference to the genre or popularity. It’s a weekly two-hour long show. We’ve just celebrated the 50th birthday of it. And we have a new resident, Holic, who helps a lot in making the show. The conception was changed as we have a one hour long guest mix every second week. We had DJs and producers so far like Arno Cost, The Flash Brothers, Matt Rowan, Tom Morgan or Gabriel Sordo.
Yeah, a few. J I’d not like to tell more about it, only that it may gonna be selected for a famous mix CD. You had a release at one of the leader labels in Hungary, the Tilth Music. How did you get in contact with Snake? I met him due to Soliquid. I respect his work very much, so I was very happy when he said ok for one of our tracks. You took part in the Creamfields before parties as well with Tommy Nash. What experiences, memories did you get during these gigs? It was one of the best experiences in my life. We were to play only at one club at the opening party, but it was so successful as we finished it, we could go forward to the biggest club of the city. We were playing there till 7am, still for about 1000 persons. Second time we were invited to this club for the closing party of the Creamfields club tour. We got many new fans during these Polish gigs, who still support us. And finally I would like to ask you about the future. What are you up to? Where can we hear you and what are you working on? At the moment I’m remixing one of Tommy’s tracks that’s coming out at Cloud9/Armada. After that we’ll have some collective works, and own as well. If everything goes well three of our tracks and a remix are coming out at English Global Underground this year, and two others at Tilth Music, and lastly an own record at the Holland About Dance label. I wouldn’t like to declare more about it. :) About gigs, we are not very busy at the moment. I was in Nederland int he last half year and when I came home, we were working on some new music. Though once I could play a whole night in Romania, which effected that I’ll probably be a resident there. Unfortunately we still have to manage ourselves which is quite difficult, but hopefully we’ll get more requests after some releases. Anyway, one thing is sure, we are going to work on 200% this year!
