Interviews - Hungarian DJs & Producer
silence_o_phobia_100

Nowadays we spent more time for foreign producers, so it’s time to get back to our country for a while. Because of this here is a guy who maybe better-known on the west side of Hungary. Silence ’O’ Phobia has been practicing his mixing and producing skills for 10 years.

How long have you been dealing with this style?

I was very young when Kraftwerk’s music captivated me. Maybe I wasn’t 10 years old then. No words can discribe it what feelings I got when I listened to their music. I don’t know what motivated my father when he bought Kraftwerk records, because he was fond of rock music. Due to this I started tol isten electronic music gradually. I tried to get every Kraftwerk and similar records. I went through different genres from the harder to the easier and more melodic styles. Altough my parents couldn’t understand my changes, they always supported me in everything.

Where is your artist name, Silent ’O’ Phobia from?silence_o_phobia_3

This is a disease and I’m a victim of it. If music is off I have symptoms… :)

Seriously, at beginnings of the project I was looking for the right name with my musical friend, Grag Velvet. First we wanted to start this whole thing together and didn’t want to link this name to any of us, so we get a noncommittal phrase, the Silent ’O’ Phobia. Later because of different reasons I was left alone, but the name was stayed.

If I’m right you are relatives with Dynamic Illusion (Dani), who we’ve already written on the site about. Do you sometimes work together?

Yes, we are relatives, he is my nephew. ;) We worked together and nowadays as well. It’s not only anout working, we help each other. We share our opinions and experiences. We started to use producer softwares almost at the same time. Changed some music, ideas and made remixes for each other. This musical relationship is still alive.

As I find you are on the same style. What kind of music do you prefer and what’s your main line?

In fact I use mainly harder music and try to create a unique sound. I lay stress upon drum and bass using hardy melodies. I like melodies, and also make. I’d like to show people later that I can approach this genre from different ways.

You have been producing for 10 years. Have you tried djing or do you prefer producing?

I can’t choose. The best thing is when you make a track and later spin it in a club for people. Make them glad and help to take their ease. And see on their face they like the music. I like to play but first I’d like to spend more time for producing.

How big is your vocation in this field? Is it only a hobby or would you like to make a career in it?

When I was younger I made music as a hobby and it was fun playing at small parties. I gladly showed my friends the tracks I’d created. I hope nothing will break my enthusiasm and one day I can make money with it. I take it seriously. I think it can’t go on otherwise.

silence_o_phobiaAs a beginner producer how hard do you have to push if you  want lables and promoters to find you?

At the beginnings people” push” hard because of their enthusiasm. You have to grab every chance! And you have to follow some trends, but only in your own  limits. That’s the way how a producer can be unique.

How is the process of your producing? Do you start with a melody or with the rythm?

With remixes, after I listened to the bands, I usually know what I wanna do. I start with melodies and after that I modify music to my style. Every remixes get a unique sound that shows me. On the other hand my own tracks are always started at the rythm, completely at the base. After that come the feelings. And the last part of the process everytime is gilding. In the last few days come out everything that I’ve imagined before.

How long does this process take for you?

To create a track usually takes 2 weeks with post-tasks. I don’t know if it’s long or not.

What are you working on nowadays?

I constantly create new tracks. I have a remix for Pitch Records that was finished a few days ago, and we are working on a tarck together with Dynamic Illusion as well.

I’m making remixes for a Mexican dj/producer (RedLoft) and some Hungarians (Soundstorm, No Solutions, Nikola and D.Lectro).

My new work will be available on a compilation album mixed by Faces.

What is that point where you would say you reached everything that you wanted?

I think I’ll never get to that point. My expectations will always change. But I already feel I could reach something that I’ve wanted for ages. I will be completely satisfied if I’m a recognized producer.

What should we know about the mix you made for us?

I tried to show my world in this mix. Somewhere hard, somewhere unique with special sounds. But hardness is dominant. So volume to the maximum! ;)
