Interviews - Hungarian DJs & Producer
marrakech_logo

A short time ago I got a letter in which I was told to pay attention to the Marrakech duo. They are Hungarians as well, and started producing in this January. Their first debut E.P. came to be one of Cattaneo’s favourites.

We’ve already written a few things about you, but now please, you introduce yourselves. Where are you from?

Thomas: We are both from Győr. My name is Janovics Tamás and I’m 20 years old.

Human(8): I’m Szabó Levente and 24 years old.

Where are you know each other from? And why do you work together?

I don’t think any of us could tell you how did we meet exactly. But one thing is sure, themarrakech music was our common thing that time too, about 7 years ago now. We work together because one person can’t pay as much attention to things as two. We think about producing and spreading our music. And we are good at different things so we complete each other.

Your first releases came out at the beginning of this year. Since when have you dealt with producing?

Thomas: I’ve been producing for 2 years and we’ve done it together since January.

Human8: For me this is the 8th year. First I made synthetizer-pop, then electronic music with more or less successes. But our first breakthrough was in January with the „Six Months” track.

How do you distribute the tasks? Is one of you better at something?

Thomas: Our producing process is quite strange. One of us always has a good idea, nowadays I am better at melodies and Levi gives an atmosphere to the sound.

Human8: That’s true, most parts of the process are at me.  He gives a theme and my task is create a base and garnishing.

Marrakech_-_Beautiful_musicforever.hu-mixIt was a big success when your record got the 11th position on Hernan Cattaneo’s May Top Chart. What was it due to? How did you feel then?

We don’t know how could it happened. :) How did we feel? First it was unbelievable. Mainly because we’d just started producing 4 moths earlier and these 4 tracks were our first common works. We’d never tried to make anything before.

Where is your name from? Marrakech, have you been there?

Thomas: It was my idea and Levi said ok for it. When I asked him to write together music, I looked at the map and saw Marrakech. :)

What do you do in „civil life”?

Thomas: I work in a technical warehouse.

Human8: I’m a shipping manager in a textile factory.

How did you get in contact with FeralCode Records?

After we had uploaded our music on myspace site, many labels inquired about them. We can’t remember how it is happened. I think Retroid showed our music to FeralCode (thanks for it) he contacted us. And we knew that’s a good place for our music.

What genre do you prefer? What can captivate you in a music?

Thomas: I like many genres. But the sad thing is progressive music felt down and onlyMarrakech_2 electro and minimal are popular nowadays. Of course I like many of them too. I like beautiful melodies and harmonies, and also some harder beats. The main thing is the music should be a whole thing and cpativate me with its atmosphere.

Human8: In my opinion we try to mix melodic themes with dynamic base, and some music contains also some modern electro.

What are the feedbacks?

We get so much support that we appreciate! Most of the people around us glad because of our starting successes, and confirm we are on a good way. I think due to our position on Cattaneo’s chart we got many Argentin feedbacks. :)

What is the final aim that you reach your dreams come true?

We are only at the beginnings. We just released our first music a month ago. We haven’t think about this question yet. And we don’t know what’s the maximum in this field. We just make our music and if people like it, it’ll have some results. This release is already a big thing for us.

Are you DJs as well or only producers?

Thomas: I’m also a DJ. I started it 6 years ago, long time before producing.

Human8: Spinning is only a hobby for me. I prefer producing.

And finally what would you like to message to those colleagues who just start this whole thing?

We’ve just started it as well. :)

We message that maybe it’s unbelievable yet, but hard work is productive. Be open-minded, brave and respect people in the scene, because the aim of music is to build not to destroy.
