| Interviews - Hungarian DJs & Producer | |||
Almost everybody’s met with Gensi’s (Add 2 Basket) music in a compilation cd or maxi, or at a party. Now we would like to present a talent, one of the most wanted Hungarian producer and dj here and abroad as well.
András Genser was born in Budapest on 9th December 1979. He was already captive of the music as a child. At age 10 he made a band with the neighbour boy and they also had some gigs: in their room. Due to his diligence and open-mind, there aren’t any DJs in the scene who haven’t heard his name yet. One year ago he also started to have music lessons to improve, set out his knowledge and to know better the harmonies and his favourite musical instrument, the piano.
An average morning, 8.30 am, he messaged me the mix was ready, just uploading and he sent the link soon. I acknowledged that there are still some DJs who get up early and work. Not too many people take work so seriously, but obviously that’s why he could reach all the things in his carrer.
My first question in this early morning: how are you and how is your summer?
Hi, I’m fine, thanks, except my allergy. The summer is also good, I spend it with working.
My exercise is quite difficult, because you’ve already been in Warsaw, Praha, Sofia, Mexico, Sanghai, Buenos Aires, Sao Paolo, and it’s only August. First of all congratulation! Not many Hungarian DJs could do this during a half year. About which one should I ask you? I think you should choose. Which place is the most memorable and why?
Every journey is a new adventure and experience, specially when I can visit a pleace where I’ve never been before, or I can meet ’online’ friends personally. It’s very interesting, when you are in contact with someone, imagine a person during months and when you cross the ocean and finally meet him/her, maybe you get what you waiting but maybe not, whether in a good or a bad way. I prep for travelling like a tourist. But I have only 2-3 days for sightseeing, so I always try to sleep less and visit more, because I don’t have many other chances to go these places. I could spend 6 days in Sanghai, it was a great experience. It’s a much more different world than the other places I’ve visited before, that’s why it made a big influence on me. But also Mexico and South-America were unforgettable, and I enjoyed Praha and other European cities as well.

How is the party-culture abroad? How are the people, DJs and promoters? What do you think, is it possible for other Hungarian DJs to reach success abroad?
There are „fighting” also abroad between the DJ and DJ, or promoter and promoter. But fortunately the crowd doesn’t care about it like here. Whereever I went, always met with nice people, but of course foreign artists are always welcomed everywhere. I’m sure every Hungarian DJ would be successful in any parties abroad. I think there’s no other place in the world where you can find as many good and aware DJs as here. But nowadays unfortunately it’s not enough. You need something more whereby you get the call or e-mail with an invitation. And that’s quality producing. I’m not the only Hungarian who can play abroad due to my own music. There are Snake Sedrick, Jay Lumen and Belocca, who play here at home very rarely.
When I saw your diary, I realized you won’t be bored in the rest of this year. If I’m right, there’s gonna be a gig in Istambul with famous names. But I rather ask you: when and where are you gonna play in the close future?
On 1st September I’ll play at a festival with Tarkan and Ricky Ryan. And I’ve got some invitation from those places where I was this or last year. I’m invited also for a Halloween party to Washington in October, but it’s very difficult to get a work permit there and I don’t want to play illegally, cause Americans don’t joking.
The NuGeneration Festival in Kecel (hungary) was a big ado. What do you think what was its secret? How did you like it?
It was great to play at home in main showtime. I enjoyed myself! The secret is what I said before: we have many great talents!
You have an own label called Add 2 Basket Records. What should we do about it?
I’ve released my own and foreign producers’ music since last June. It’s like a little family, the base is more the friendship than the business. It’s fantastic, because the other artists think in the same way. So sometimes thanks to our friendship I can release many great music that are in the biggest DJs’ discbag. They are: D-Pulse, Hernan Cerbello, Phunktastike, Emjae, Tim Richards, Dana Bergquist, Maher Daniel, Liluca, Claes Rosen. And the Hungarians are: Belocca, Yvel&Tristan, D.Lectro, Quasar and Andro.
’Volaris’ is a Mexican inland airline. I flew with them from Mexico city to Monterrey. I liked their name and logo so I decided to make a music with this name. My Swedish friend, Claes Rosen, who a very talented producer, sent me some ideas and we finished one track together. That got the ’Volaris’ name. Luke Fair, Jody Wisternoff and Ricky Ryan usually play it. The cover was made by my friend, Kenny. :)
Let’s talk about the mix mentioned above. Has it any messages or it’s only a selection of your favourite tracks?
The July Syntetic Session mix got great feedbacks, I worked a lot on it. Then I promised that I’ll make in every month a promo mix. Well, this new one is a little bit late, but finally I finished and it’s still August. So I keep up my resolution! I always try to mix many styles in one hour, paying attention for that it has to be one whole. I hope it was successful.
Well, thank you very much for your time and we wish you similar successes for the future.
Thanks for asking me!!!
